The story unfolds in Galicia (in Lviv and its surroundings) in the mid-19th century. Anna, a young orphan, lives under the guardianship of her strict uncle in a provincial town. Her life changes forever when she meets a married Polish nobleman named Adam, a man older than she is, of high social standing, experienced and weary of a marriage without love. A passionate but complicated feeling flares up between them. In a society ruled by strict moral principles, class prohibitions, and religious dogma, this bond becomes a real challenge. The characters will have to endure public condemnation, dangerous secrets, pain, and dramatic trials that change their fates forever.
