Little Sister

The action takes place in the spring of 1942. Varia Semchenko, a ward of an orphanage, runs away to the front, but she is sent back. During an enemy shelling, the orphanage's children are killed under the debris, but Varia miraculously survives. During the evacuation she falls behind the convoy and, to avoid arrest, takes the name of her dead friend Ania. She completes nursing courses and, together with a new friend, Katia, leaves for the front. Before that, the girls swear not to get involved in romances during the war. But on their very first day at the front, the beautiful Katia falls in love with a young scout, Mitia. Ania cannot keep the promise either: she grows close to Savelii, the commander of a reconnaissance unit. But she is afraid of her feelings, because then she would have to confess her lie.
