About the project

“Mama” is a four-episode war drama from 2021, produced by Osnova Film Production and commissioned by the “STB” TV channel. The director and screenwriter of the project is Viktoriia Tarasenko. The lead role is played by the incomparable actress Olesia Zhurakovska. It is a deep, painful, true-to-life story about maternal love, the war in eastern Ukraine, captivity, and courage, set against the events in Donbas starting in 2014.

Nina Petrivna lives with her family in Zhytomyr. Her son Vitalii decides to go to the front as a volunteer to defend the country. Later the woman receives terrible news: her son is missing and has been taken prisoner by the enemy. Unable to sit idly and wait, Nina Petrivna sets out for occupied Donbas to search for her child. On this dangerous journey she has to go through many trials and face the cruelty of war, but she also finds support among kind people, helps the wounded in a hospital, and shows a strength of spirit before which even enemies bow.
